Griffith Fine Arts

Through Gensler’s work with the SFA Design Center, she is has the opportunity of collaborating with Kirksey Architecture to space plan the entire interior of the Griffith Fine Arts building renovation, with the exception of the lobby on each of the three floors. The building is located on the corner of East College St. and North St. in Nacogdoches, TX. Kirksey Architecture designed the layout the expansion of the original building. In addition, they have selected most of the finishes for the renovation. At the SFA Design Center, we had to interview every faculty and staff member of the College of Fine Arts to determine their needs. We held our initial meetings with each client, drew up plans on Revit, then presented our proposal to each staff member. We created presentation boards to be able to visually show each client the furniture and finishes we proposed. We selected furniture that is durable, for example the Allsteel Inspire chair. This chair is used throughout most of the building to provide unity and consistency. The durable chair has a life time warranty. The space where each chair is located will determine if the chair has casters or no casters. For example, the chairs in the area used by the dance students will not have casters for safety reasons. We used the AllSteel Aware Training Table in the classrooms.  We are proposing the National Fringe bench in the control booth room. We are proposing Global Industry furniture located in prop rooms. The table has a durable wooden top for the preparation of the props used in performances.  Construction of the building began in October 2020, and is projected to be completed in 2022.
