Nature Center
Spring 2020
Gensler and Perez designed a nature center focusing on the flowers located in the Portland, Oregon region. We incorporated ADA compliant guidelines to make the spaces universally designed. This allows people of any age to enjoy their experience at the Falling Flower Nature Center. The building design is spaced planned based on the needed adjacent areas. The community can explore from space to space by following the wayfinding petals, which are color coded per space, on the ground and the lower portion of the walls. There are maps located on the walls that explain the color code system. The color scheme chosen was based off of the main flower species that are found  in the Portland, Oregon region. These flowers include Lilies, Callas lilies, Tulips. Seasonal flowers including Peonies, Viburnums, Eremurus, Alliums, Hops, Hydrangeas, Lex Berries, Hyacinths, and Daffodils. Doing this allowed nature to be incorporated not only by what was being showcased, but within the building to create the theme.
